Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition

SCADA stands for supervisory control and data acquisition. It refers to an industrial monitoring and controlling system. There are many architectures of such systems and many possible categorizations. For our purposes we have specified following categories:
  • SCADA - system used for remote data acquisition, process monitoring and control by means of small, private network (e.g. RS-485 network in the production yard).
  • Web SCADA - the SCADA system, where public (Internet) network is used. Such a system opens new and important possibilities.
  • Sometimes process automation components are also regarded as a part of SCADA system. We distinguish them as a separate branch because not every process automation solution requires remote monitoring and control typical to the SCADA system.

Nowadays, there is a plenty of components allowing realization of the advanced SCADA system in a short time. There are many possible networking standards to choose, graphical user interface solutions, sensors, actuators and other elements. It is possible to develop cheap, simple SCADA system as well as sophisticated solution with superior functionality.

In each case it is necessary to investigate requirements, possible solutions, their advantages, limitations and total cost of ownership (TCO). It should be remembered that it is of the same importance to fulfill present requirements in simple, robust and efficient manner, as well as to prepare the system for future improvements and integration with new modules. Moreover, properly designed system has to fulfill requirements stated by modern technical and security standards.

Our Engineering Team will help you to understand all the issues and to select and implement the SCADA system that best fits your needs.
